Greenmodeling is committed to offering an affordable service in order to help as many people as possible. We believe that environmental sustainability, and its consequential benefits such as low utility bills, is achievable and beneficial for all income classifications, especially those of lower income. Lower utility bills can be a huge help for those struggling to make ends meet. Giving a one-time hand-out might cover a week's worth of groceries and then be gone. For a similarly minimal donation, our services can be offered free of charge to a family in need, potentially saving them enough money for a week's worth of groceries every two months for years and years to come. Even better, as energy costs rise, the savings from this initial investment grow as well.
We partner with Nation Sustainable, an organization providing free and low-cost energy audits and upgrades to low income families and individuals and the organizations serving them.
How are families chosen?
Low-income families are selected whose need has come to our attention primarily through our community partners and involvement. Once a family has been approved, they are added to a list based on order of approval and urgency of need. The service should be rendered within one month of receiving sufficient funds for the next family in line. While suggestions are welcome, we make no guarantee of approval.
What is provided?
We will perform a green audit of the family's property. Following the audit, we will help the family implement low-cost improvements. This includes complimentary CFLs, caulking, weatherstripping and other weatherization, and low-flow fixtures for showers, sinks and toilets. Finally, we sit down with the family and discuss how their lives on a day to day basis can be more environmentally sustainable, potentially leading to increased health and further reduced living expenses.
What is the cost?
The highly discounted cost of this program for a typical house is around $600.
